India and UAE Strengthen Defence Ties at 12th JDCC Meeting in Abu Dhabi
Comprehensive Discussions on Defence Cooperation and Regional Security Mark the 12th Joint Defence Cooperation Committee Meeting
Abu Dhabi, July 09, 2024: The 12th edition of the Joint Defence Cooperation Committee (JDCC) meeting between India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was held in Abu Dhabi, marking another milestone in the robust defence and security partnership between the two nations.
The meeting saw detailed discussions on various opportunities for collaboration to further enhance defence and security cooperation. Key areas of focus included training, joint military exercises, defence industrial cooperation, subject matter expert exchange, and research & development (R&D). Both sides also delved into the regional security situation, particularly maritime security, and emphasized the need for increased collaboration to address security challenges effectively.
The Indian delegation was led by Joint Secretary Shri Amitabh Prasad and comprised senior officials from the Ministry of Defence, Armed Forces, and the Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi. The UAE delegation was co-chaired by Brig. General Staff Jamal Ebrahim Mohamed Almazrooqi.
During the visit, Shri Amitabh Prasad met with Assistant Under Secretary, Ministry of Defence, UAE, Mr. Ali Abdulla Al Ahmed, to discuss bilateral defence cooperation. Additionally, he had a productive meeting with the CEO of the Tawazun Economic Council. Staff talks between the Navy and Army of the two countries were also conducted on the sidelines of the JDCC, where service-specific cooperation was discussed in detail.
The India-UAE JDCC, established in 2006, has been a pivotal platform for fostering defence and security relations between the two countries. The 12th meeting not only highlighted the existing cooperation but also paved the way for future engagements, strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The 12th JDCC meeting underscores the commitment of India and UAE to bolster their defence and security cooperation, ensuring regional stability and mutual growth in strategic partnerships.
