Dehradun: The sacred portals of Hemkunt Sahib Gurudwara will be opened for devotees on May 25, 2025, as announced by Shri Narendrajit Singh Bindra, Chairman of the Hemkunt Sahib Gurudwara Management Trust.
Shri Bindra met Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Smt. Radha Raturi and formally informed her about the decision regarding the opening date of the revered Sikh shrine.
Hemkunt Sahib, located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, is one of the most significant pilgrimage sites for the Sikh community and is visited by thousands of devotees every year. Due to its high-altitude location, the shrine remains inaccessible during the winter months and reopens in summer after the snow clears.
Preparations for the Yatra
With the opening date now confirmed, the Hemkunt Sahib Trust and the state administration will coordinate preparations to ensure a safe and smooth pilgrimage for devotees. Measures such as road maintenance, medical facilities, and security arrangements will be undertaken in collaboration with the Uttarakhand government.
Chief Secretary Radha Raturi assured Shri Bindra of full government support in facilitating the pilgrimage and ensuring all necessary arrangements are in place.
Significance of Hemkunt Sahib
Hemkunt Sahib holds immense religious significance as it is believed to be the place where Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth Sikh Guru, meditated in his previous life. The shrine, situated at an altitude of approximately 4,632 meters (15,197 feet), is surrounded by seven snow-capped peaks and a glacial lake, offering a breathtaking spiritual retreat for devotees.
Every year, thousands of pilgrims undertake the challenging trek to the Gurudwara, making it one of the most revered religious journeys in India.
Boost to Religious Tourism
The announcement of the opening date is expected to boost religious tourism in Uttarakhand, attracting devotees from across India and around the world. The state government has been actively promoting pilgrimage tourism, and the reopening of Hemkunt Sahib will contribute significantly to the region’s spiritual tourism sector.
With the countdown to May 25 officially beginning, Sikh devotees and tourists eagerly await their opportunity to embark on the sacred journey to Hemkunt Sahib, seeking blessings and spiritual fulfillment.
